Gran Canaria Training Camp. Ben Thomas Coaching Premium Services

Need some early season sunshine? Want to top up your base miles? Fancy riding in the mountains for a week? Join us between 29th January and 11th February. Ben Thomas Coaching will be offering pre season Training Camps in Gran Canaria. Whilst the seaside resorts are full of tourists the beautiful winding mountain roads are almost deserted, this Canary Island has become a favourite training location for your hosts and 2 x National Cycling Champion.

Experience

I’ve visited Gran Canaria 3 times and have been joined on the roads by many pro’s. Alban Lakata, World Marathon Champion visits the island each year. Saxo Bank Tinkoff with riders like Peter Sagan use the island as their winter training base. The fantastic thing about this island is the variety of route options, spend a week with me in Gran Canaria and we could ride a different route into the mountains nearly every day There’s also plenty of options for beer and ice cream!

The 7 day training camp will kick start your 2018 season. It’s the perfect opportunity to log a big week of early season miles or start to test the engine. We focus on miles so this will be a road bike training camp. You should already be in a reasonable condition and expect 3 to 6 hour days but the training camp will cater for all levels fitness levels, your needs and training goals.

Bikes and Kit

I highly recommend bringing your own road bike, most airlines will allow you to book sports luggage. The bike should be in good working order, whilst we offer mechanical services during the trip this is for tuning not for full services. We recommend having the bike looked over by a bike shop before the trip, special attention should be paid to brake pads and tyre wear. The bike should be capable of carrying 2 water bottles. Whilst the weather in January is reliably sunny and warm (18 degrees average) you should bring at least 1 set of kit to cope with wet cold conditions. A packable jacket and leg warmers are worth carrying for the descents. A cycle helmet should be worn at all times.

Should you not have a suitable road bike then enquiries can be made to

Insurance

It will be compulsory for all clients to have travel insurance which covers you for sports. You will also need an European Heath Insurance Card (EHIC).
